Qualcomm’s Mesh Networking platform boosts home connected IoT devices

Qualcomm announced the Mesh Networking Platform intended to control and improve the use of IoT devices in the home.

According to the platform, Qualcomm wants to make it easier for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to build and deploy the Internet of Things (IoT) efforts.

The mesh platform is based on the IPQ40x8/9 network system-on-a-chip, which is used in nearly every mesh networking product available today.

Qualcomm said, the new platform will improve connectivity to smart devices in the home and will also feature voice control capabilities, centralized management and security, and mesh system features essential for carrier-grade networks.

The New capabilities will not only transform consumer experiences at home, but along with carrier-grade feature enhancements, make it easier for our customers to adopt and deploy mesh systems aligned to how people want their networks to perform, said, Gopi Sirineni, vice-president of product management at Qualcomm.

The chip maker"s Wi-Fi Self-Organizing (SON) feature suite that improve network coverage, optimize traffic, and boost security.

Using Wi-Fi SON, broadband carriers can enhance their services and get access to remote monitoring, diagnostics, and analytics tools as well.

Mesh Networking has its own voice integrations, means users can control their smart home devices with voice commands through the platform itself, and also provides API support for other popular cloud-based assistant applications.

Qualcomm"s IoT Connectivity Feature Suite helps with the simultaneous use of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, CSRmesh connectivity, and 802.15.4 technologies as well.

Qualcomm" Mesh Networking Reference Design will give OEMs a blueprint for developing their own custom IoT and connected device mesh networking products.
