Running Shoes made out of algae biomass

Vivobarefoot, a sister company of the legendary footwear brand Clarks. The company has just launched its new running shoes Vivobarefoot Ultra Blooms. Finally to release in July the world"s first shoe made from algae biomass.

The algae shoe launch in collaboration with Bloom Foam. An eco-crusading team based in Mississippi who define themselves as the world’s first plant-based, high-performance solution to synthetic and petroleum-based flexible foams.

San Diego Company Bloom collects algae from waterways, removes moisture and adds polymers to create ‘Bloom foam. The Bloom Foam created by harvesting algal biomass from freshwater sources at high risk of algal bloom. The reason Ultra Blooms are ultra-cool out of natural materials. They’re made out of algae, which grows in excess in rivers, lakes and coastlines and can starve local marine life of oxygen.
