Google brings its Anti-phishing security to its Gmail app for iOS

Google added a new security feature to its Gmail app for iOS. The new feature alerting users when they encounter a link that Google finds suspicious.

Specifically, the new security feature stopped users from falling victim to a phishing attempt. Google explains, if users see unsafe link they should triple-check and think twice before deciding to proceed anyway.

Google added anti-phishing security checks within its Android app for Gmail, and now brings same with its iOS app. Users can tap to proceed regardless of the warning or to cancel their visit to the page.

Google said, the service only applies to links that Google considers suspicious, but it doesn’t know for sure to be dangerous. Whether user clicks on a link that Google knows is dangerous, users instead taken to a page. The page warns the website suspected of a phishing website and that users can proceed anyway.

The warnings protect users who may click on a link they received an email that looks official. Phishing scammers become increasingly at imitating official emails, but include their own link that steals information belonging to the recipient.

This information often personal data that can use to steal someone’s identity, but sometimes more targeted, aiming to get credentials for logging into a certain account. Individuals and massive corporations alike fallen victim to these sorts of scams, in some cases losing large amounts of money and, in others, sensitive information.
