Apple introduces a series of new products in the annual iPhone event

Apple new products

Apple announced a series of updates and launches during the two-hour annual iPhone event. The company unveils its new products iPhone X, iPhone 8, Apple Watch Series 3, and Apple TV 4k.

iPhone X

Apple’s much-anticipated iPhone X has an edge-to-edge 5.8" OLED display called the Super Retina Display that has a 2436x1125 resolution and 458 pixels per inch. The phone display supports HDR and has improved color accuracy and a 1,000,000 to 1 contrast ratio.

With the iPhone X"s 12MP cameras you can use Apple"s new facial recognition technology called Face ID to unlock it. Face ID uses the phone"s front facing camera and Apple"s A11 Bionic Neural Engine to build a model of your face that can be used to unlock your phone.

With the removal of the home button, users switch between Apps and get back to the home screen by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. The demonstrations of this new gesture look like it will be more intuitive than using the home button.

The phone starts at £999 in the UK for the 64GB version, going up to £1,149 for the 256GB model. Coming in space gray and silver, it will be available to pre-order from October 27 and will ship on November 3.

iPhone 8 and 8 Plus

Apple also introduced the iPhone 8 and 8+. While, these versions do not have the edge-to-edge glass, it still sports the new A11 Bionic chip that will provide a generous performance boost for the phone.

The iPhone 8 has an enhanced 4.7‑inch and 5.5‑inch Retina HD displays, a 12 MP camera, is engineered to reduce dust and water, and comes in the new space gray, silver, and gold finishes.

Machine learning

Machine learning is applied to photos and videos to make better predictions about framing, lighting, and more, and new AR support will enable users to experience apps in real-time overlays.

The iPhone 8 price starts at $699, and $799 for the iPhone 8 Plus. Both models are available for pre-order on September 15 and shipping begins on September 22.

Apple Watch 3

The third generation of Apple"s smartwatch is the first that works independently from the iPhone. The watch comes with OS 4, the next version of Apple’s smartwatch operating system.

With a newly incorporated cellular modem owner will be able to take calls and access the internet with the watch without having their iPhone on them. This will allow the watch to receive calls, texts, and stream music without having an iPhone nearby.

The 38mm aluminum base model with cellular connectivity will start at $399, while a non-cellular Series 3 Watch costs $329.

Apple offers a wireless charging mat, dubbed the AirPower. The new iPhones, Apple Watches, and AirPods all support wireless charging. Apple said the AirPower charging mat will be coming in 2018, but didn’t give a specific date.

Apple TV 4K

The new Apple TV 4K streams content at 4K HDR. While 4K streaming devices already exist in the market, Apple"s huge content library and the ability to install Apps, quickly turns the Apple TV 4k into a high resolution and high-end gaming/media console at a reasonable price.

The Apple TV 4K starts at $179 for 32GB or $199 for 64GB and starts pre-order on September 15 and available on September 22.
