The Closing Ceremony will feature the whole event and local flavor of host country Brazil, as well as the parade of flags and athletes from countries that participated in the Rio Games. The ceremony culminates with a party featuring samba schools from Rio’s world-famous Carnival and the extinguishment of the Olympic flame.

A look back at the most memorable moments and performances of Rio 2016, including Michael Phelps, Usain Bolt, and the U.S. women’s gymnastics team

Usain Bolt reaffirmed his status as the fastest man on as he raced his way into the history books taking precisely 9.81 seconds to do so.

Bolt now stands on the verge of a historic triple. Having already won the 100m, the 200m and the 4x100m relay at both Beijing and London, the Jamaican is looking to recreate the feat for a third, and probably final, time in Rio.

Bolt has provided a breath of fresh air to athletics - a shining light for a sport battered and bruised by one doping scandal after another.

In light of such achievements, we take a look at his best moments on the track.

The most decorated athlete in Olympic history, American swimmer Michael Phelps finished his career with 23 gold medals and 28 overall. Phelps was just 15 years old when he made his Olympic debut at the 2000 Games in Sydney. Though he didn't medal in Australia, the young Phelps put the world on notice with a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter butterfly final.

Simone Biles, who won four gold medals and one bronze in Rio, was selected by her teammates to serve as the flag bearer for the United States.

The best names in cycling came to the Olympic Games in Rio to compete for gold, either on the road, in rocky terrain or on the track.

The British cyclists owned the track events, both on the men’s side and the women’s. Team GB’s power couple Jason Kenny and Laura Trott combined for five gold medals on the track.

When Julius Yego became the first Kenyan to win a title in a field event at the 2011 All Africa Games, journalists asked to talk to his coach and discover the secret of his success.

That's right. Yego trained himself using YouTube videos, and went on to become a world champion in 2015. In Rio, he won Olympic silver.

The Olympics gives athletes the chance to show off their athletic ability and far more. It's when they show their sportsmanship that they really shine.

Kiwis and Americans will remember the moment Abbey D'Agostino was tripped by Nikki Hamblin, tearing her ACL in the process. Despite that, she rose up, convinced Hamblin not to give up, and the two finished their 5000m race.

Fiji stormed to sevens gold in Rio as rugby returned to the Olympics, playing a style of rugby that may well leave audiences gasping for more.

The Fijians proved that rugby can be an art form, and their supporters in the islands celebrated their first Olympic medal in style, partying on the beaches. The team returned to Fiji on Sunday and huge crowds were on hand to greet them.

Both men’s and women’s field hockey had first timers on the podium in Rio receiving Olympic gold. For the men, Argentina earned gold, stunning Germany and defeating Belgium on its way there.

Team USA had a much improved campaign than they did in London, and were perhaps one of the biggest success stories in the field hockey tournament. They went 4-1 in pool play, winning the first four consecutive games, and advanced to the quarterfinal round.

Although by bronze medalist Germany, Team USA’s finish in Rio was drastically better than London where they finished last in pool play.

The U.S. women's basketball team poses Saturday after winning their sixth straight gold medal and their 49th straight game in the Olympics. Their success reflects the growing dominance of U.S. women in recent Olympiads. The U.S. women have won more medals than the American men in the past two Summer Games.

Even as  rightly celebrate these inspiring performances by Indian women, they remember that celebrating individual success is no compensation for a culture of  the celebration of Sakshi, Dipa and PV Sindhu rings entirely hollow. We should support their success to hit.
