Happy Birthday Linux! On your silver jubilee birthday!

August 25, 1991, 21 year old Linus Torvald came up with a hobby and this is how Linux was born and today Linux community has touched the mark of 86 million users. Now it is the mainstay of many big corporates. Even the government systems have adopted it and being embedded in many devices globally.

Initially it was just an alternative operating system used on mainframes and back-ends. But now it has got into major mainstream for all sorts of small and big company’s server operations and has penetrated into consumer computing too.

Top supercomputers and servers of any sort are operating on Linux operating system. Not only this, large quantity of devices and machines including cars, network routers, facility automation controls, entertainment equipment, medical equipment and what not are working on Linux. Linux has got into almost everywhere, thanks to the Linux-based Android operating system. Many of us don’t even realize that the device they are using is operating on Linux. Linux is everywhere.

Linux in fact proved to be a revolutionary idea. It evolved and improved very fast. Swapping of hardware with great ease is one of the major advantages with Linux.

The new computing technology was shocked at Linux’s open philosophy. The model of joint and worldwide development of Linux worked very well and still goes on.

The pliability of Linux being free and open has been proved in last 25 years. It can be concluded that present approaches and innovations could be possible because of Linux and not in spite of Linux.
