Google’s VR platform Daydream is now available for developers’. Google VR SDK 1.0 is currently available for download on Google's Daydream developer website.
The Google VR SDKs let you build experiences for Daydream-ready smartphones and headsets on the Android OS. Users can interact with apps using the Daydream controller.
Those who want to make the applications need 3 pieces of hardware. A Nexus 6P phone running Android N is the only supported VR headset phone at this point of time. Developers require another Android phone with a gyroscope, and KitKat or a later version of the operating system. The second phone is for use as a controller emulator. Finally, a VR headset compatible with Google Cardboard is needed.
The company first revealed Daydream at Google I/O earlier this year, alongside the news that Google would create its own Daydream virtual reality headset.
For now, only the developers who are part of the Daydream Access Program can publish apps to the Play Store.
Developers in the Daydream Access Program get early access to new tools and features of the VR platform. These developers also provide feedback on the platform to Google. All developers will be able to publish VR apps in the store from early next year. Developers who make high quality VR content can sign up for the Daydream Access Program on Google Developers site.
