Google has announced YouTube Go, a new app designed for offline viewing and sharing. YouTube Go allows users to save videos for offline viewing, giving options over quality and file size.
The app also allows for local sharing with nearby users without using any data. YouTube Go builds upon the Smart Offline feature that YouTube launched first in India earlier this year. According to the YouTube blog, Youtube Go has been built to be offline-first, and to focus on minimising data costs.
YouTube Go features video previews in the form of slideshows for each clip, so can get an idea of what it’s about before you stream or save it to your device. You can also see its file size before downloading, along with how much storage space you have left on your phone.

In 2014 YouTube had launched offline mode that allows users to download videos to watch when there was no connectivity, and then in the start of this year, it launched Smart offline which lets users schedule the downloads at night, when operators charge less for data..
YouTube Go also include resolution options for streaming to help optimize a person’s use of their data plan. That can also enable faster playback when connected on slower Wi-Fi connections
‘YouTube Go’ is initially available in India and Android only.
YouTube Go will become available to test soon; the company hasn’t announced an official date, but users in India can sign up on this page to be notified when it arrives.
