Twitter is about to make a major change to the way that tweets work.  The character limit is unique characteristic of Twitter, the same characteristic is also annoys a lot of users.  A few days back, Twitter had announced that it will soon allow users to tweet longer tweets than usual by changing the way it counts the 140 characters. According to a report by The Verge, the new update will be implemented by September 19.

Twitter is changing the way it counts 140 characters to make more space for texts along with attachments like photos, GIFs and links.  The new update narrows down exactly what type of content will be counted in the 140 character limit.

 Earlier, Twitter had announced that in the upcoming update, media attachments like GIFs, photos, videos, and polls will no longer be counted in the character limit.

 

Twitter has also made changes to the username character limit. When replying to a Tweet, the usernames at the beginning of a tweet will no longer be counted. Twitter is yet to confirm the news about the change to the character limit.
