It’s a very proud moment to see the content availability on any site in your own native language. But every community feels very comfortable to see all the words and phrases on the social networking platform accurately translated into their native language.

The total number of languages in which Facebook is available has touched the mark of 101 on Friday with the addition of three new languages i.e. Maltese (the official language of Malta having more than 400,000 native speakers), Pulaar ( having more than 7 million speakers in West and Central Africa of this vernacular of Fula) and Corsican (one of the World’s endangered language as per UNESCO having about 200,000 speakers)

Facebook has really a huge block of its users who speak a language other than English and this number is undoubtedly increasing as more and more people connect to the Internet. It is but natural that with the increase in number of languages the number of users will grow extensively.

The ultimate aim is to eventually translate Facebook in every language requested for by its users. Another more than 40 languages are under the process of translation.

In 2007, Facebook was only available in English and it was a hurdle to Facebook’s stated mission of connecting every person on this planet. So in 2008 Facebook released a tool and asked the native speakers to submit translations of phrases through this tool and selected the most accurate one through voting. Since then this process is going on and improving with each passing day.
