After two years of hard work Facebook is ready to knock at your office cubicle next month as a suite of communication tools for businesses and their people. It is specifically made for work and was long awaited. It’s going to have an open competition with its rivals Microsoft’s Yammer & Slack and it’s not for free. User will have to pay a monthly charge.

Facebook expects to open another stream for inflow of revenue with this step. Many large organizations are already testing on this in private including Heineken.

"There's a big chunk of people's time that Facebook really doesn't address at all today, and that's the time they spend working. Facebook at Work is a way to open up a whole new addressable market for Facebook with fairly significant potential revenues," chief analyst at Jackdaw Research, Jan Dawson mentioned. "It's also a nice hedge against what's an almost entirely advertising-driven business today, with a new business model based on subscriptions instead."

It is very clear that in this case networking and communication is going to stay inside the organization only.

"Facebook at Work lets our staff communicate, discuss and solve problems faster and more efficiently in a way that tools, such as email, simply can’t," Kevin Hanley, director of design at the Royal Bank of Scotland, commented on a Facebook page promoting the service.

Facebook at Work's slogan is: "A connected workplace is a more productive workplace."
