Law enforcement officials told the Associated Press that at least five men were being questioned after the Brooklyn traffic stop. The two officials spoke on condition of impersonality because they were not authorized to talk about an ongoing investigation. The FBI said in a statement that no one had been charged with any crime and the investigation was ongoing.
An Afghan-born man wanted in connection with Saturday's New York City bombing was the subject of an all-out manhunt Monday morning, and police have cautioned the man may be armed and dangerous.
Ahmad Khan Rahami, a naturalized U.S. citizen, is wanted for questioning regarding the Saturday night blast in New York's Chelsea neighborhood that injured 29 people.
Rahami's last known address is Elizabeth, NJ, the city where the FBI had launched at least one raid on Monday morning. That's also the location where investigators discovered five suspicious devices one of which exploded while a bomb squad robot tried to disarm it near a train station.
The search for Rahami comes hours after federal authorities on Sunday night conducted a traffic stop in Brooklyn of a vehicle of interest in the Chelsea bombing. A law enforcement source told that a number of individuals who are possibly connected to the explosion were taken into custody.
Following the Chelsea explosion on West 23rd Street at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, police found a second, unexploded device four blocks away. The device was described as a pressure cooker with wires and a phone attached.
The Chelsea bombing came just 11 hours after a pipe bomb exploded in a New Jersey garbage can near the route of a charity 5K race. No one was injured during that blast.
