The FIFA under-17 World Cup in 2017, which will be held in India, officially has six venues now after the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata was ratified by the FIFA delegation after an inspection on Tuesday.
The other five venues that had been ratified before Kolkata are Kochi, Mumbai, Goa, New Delhi and Guwahati.
The state sports minister, Aroop Biswas, who was present at the post-inspection media interaction assured all co-operation from the state government and said that all work at the Salt Lake Stadium will be over by January 31, 2017.
At the same time, competitions department head of FIFA, Marion Mayer-Vorfelder, announced at a press meet here after the inspection that the tournament will be held from October 6 to October 28, 2017.
The draw for the event will be held on July 7 next year.
"Massive work has been done since the last inspection. That gives a very good feeling. This stadium in Kolkata can be one of the best in the country," said Mayer-Vorfelder.
Javier Ceppi, the tournament director, said: "We are very happy with the work done in spite of few constraints.
Regarding whether Kolkata can host the final, it will be decided only after a review of the venues following completion of all the works that need to be done."
