Facebook has launched a new feature to let people buy and sell things with their friends and strangers. Facebook is getting more deeply involved in e-commerce with the launch of Marketplace.

Facebook Marketplace lets you browse a relevancy-sorted feed of things to buy from people who live nearby, and quickly list your own stuff for sale. Marketplace is launching today in the US, UK, Australia, and New Zealand on mobile, but could roll out globally and on the web if it’s popular.

Facebook Marketplace can be accessed by tapping a highly-visible shopping bag icon at the bottom of the app, alongside icons such as ”Messenger” and “Notifications.”

The company says more than 450 million Facebook users visit Groups categorized as “buy-and-sell” each month to view items for sales from neighbors or collectors globally. For now, Marketplace is free for both buyers and sellers.

The site bans the sale of things like guns and animals, a rule that applies across its site but is enforced within the Marketplace as well.

The Marketplace also permits haggling, with would-be buyers able to message sellers and “make them an offer.” It’s worth noting here that Facebook doesn’t get involved in the actual transaction, so the payment will need to be made in cash, or through PayPal or an alternative digital payment system.
