Solar Roadways is a modular system of specially engineered solar panels that can be walked and driven upon. Solar Roadways are the possible future of energy.
After years of research Solar Roadways at last installed first ever public energy times in Sandpoint, Idaho. This is only a test run for now. It is a very small test run with only 30 panels. You have to wait a very long time to see them in the streets of major cities it was designed for.

This is a part of the test to see how it handles real world scenarios. It will not only produce a light show but it will also generate power for restrooms in the square and also the fountain. These tiles have heating elements so it will properly work in the winter as well.
Each panel is equipped with a total of 128 LEDs, each with five different colors, in order to display the lane markers or any other type of signal. A system of this kind would be useful especially in areas where often you are to deal with poor visibility due to weather conditions.
Solar Roadway’s panels, manufactured in the form of interlocking hexagonal tiles, are made of tempered glass. Each tile has a solar cell, a heating element, and LED lighting.
If the panels could capture enough solar power to just light and heat themselves that could potentially be a significant cost savings in street and highway lighting and snow removal.
If you don’t know about it or have doubts about how it works then you can check out this live webcam pointed at the tile.
