Denmark's Amalie Dideriksen is the new Women's Road World Champion after beating Kirsten Wild of the Netherlands and Lotta Lepisto of Finland in the final sprint in Doha.
Japanese rider Eri Yonamine attacked shortly after the start and spent some time in the spotlights. She was later joined by Nicole Hanselmann but the duo were eventually caught by the pack.
The road race had a dramatic outcome for Russia's Olga Zabelinskaya who was judged to have accepted an illegal bike change and was as such disqualified by the judges.
Most of the initiative in this race came from the Dutch team with several riders launching short attacks to shake things up, but it was time trial champion Amber Neben to get away and build a gap of almost a minute.
The American wasn't given more space however as the Dutch slowly but surely reduced the gap and caught the lone escapee just after the start of the final lap.
The orange train for Kirsten Wild was in perfect shape ahead of the peloton despite attempts of others to disrupt its organization. Wild launched the final sprint but saw the young Dideriksen surpass her at the very last moment.
