Samsung announced today that it is expanding its Galaxy Note7 recall and will give users an up to $100 rebate.
All the users of Galaxy Note7 devices can exchange their phone for another Samsung smartphone device, or receive a refund, under the terms of the expanded U.S. Note7 Refund and Exchange Program, approved by the CPSC.
1.9 million Original and replacement Galaxy Note 7 smartphones are subject to the expanded recall in the U.S., including 1 million Note 7 phones sold after Samsung’s first round of recall on Sept. 15.
Several replacement devices also exploded, leading the company to permanently halt sales of the Note7 earlier this week.
“We appreciate the patience of our consumers, carrier and retail partners for carrying the burden during these challenging times,” says Tim Baxter, president and chief operating officer, Samsung Electronics America. “We are committed to doing everything we can to make this right.”
The recall program now applies to both original and replacement units that were sold or exchanged in the United States. Users have a choice between getting a replacement phone or getting a full refund.
Samsung will give $100 to any customer who decides to exchange their Note7 for another Samsung smartphone. Samsung will give $25 to anyone who asks for a refund or chooses to buy another company’s smartphone.
Samsung Galaxy Note7 users can get the rebate by visiting a carrier’s store or retail store to make the exchange.
